India GST Invoices
EZ Order Printer prints taxes exactly as Shopify calculates them. In India, Shopify handles GST as a regular tax, so once GST is set up in your Shopify admin, your invoices show CGST, SGST, and IGST without any extra app configuration.
Shopify itself doesn't create a GST-compliant bill. This guide shows how to combine your Shopify tax setup with EZ Order Printer settings to print one.
1. Set Up GST in Shopify
In your Shopify admin, go to Settings > Taxes and duties > India and follow Shopify's GST guide:
- Intra-state sales: Charge CGST + SGST for orders shipped within your home state.
- Inter-state sales: Charge IGST for orders shipped to other states.
- Product rates (5%, 12%, 18%, 28%): Use collection-level tax overrides for products that don't use the standard rate.
Tax names
Your invoices show the tax names you set in Shopify. Name your taxes CGST, SGST, and IGST so the invoice labels match GST terminology.
2. Add Your GSTIN
- Go to Settings > Store information in EZ Order Printer and enter your GSTIN in the Tax number field.
- In the Template Editor, open Store Information and enable Tax number.
3. Show GST Amounts on the Invoice
Each line item already shows its tax name, rate, and amount (e.g., CGST (9%), SGST (9%)) on invoices, draft invoices, and refunds.
To break down the tax total, open Order Total in the Template Editor:
- Enable Order tax to print the total tax amount.
- Enable Group tax lines to list each tax (CGST, SGST, or IGST) with its rate and amount.
4. Print HSN Codes
- In Shopify, store each product's HSN code in the HS tariff code field (in the Shipping section of the product page). Shopify requires at least 6 digits in this field.
- In the Template Editor, open Items Information and enable Show commercial invoice (HS Code).
Shorter HSN codes
If your HSN codes are shorter than 6 digits, store them in a product or variant metafield instead. Then, under Items Information, enable Items metafields (or Variant metafields) and add that metafield key.
5. Print the Buyer's GSTIN (B2B Orders)
- In Shopify, go to Settings > Custom data > Customers and create a metafield definition named GSTIN (for example,
custom.gstin). - Enter the GSTIN on each registered business customer's profile.
- In the Template Editor, open Customer Information, enable Customer metafields, and add the key
custom.gstin.
The metafield definition name (GSTIN) is printed as the label, and customers without a GSTIN are skipped.
6. Use GST Labels
Go to Settings > Translation in EZ Order Printer to rename document labels for each language, for example:
| Default label | GST label |
|---|---|
| Invoice | Tax Invoice |
| Tax number | GSTIN |
| HS Code | HSN |
Place of Supply
The shipping and billing addresses printed on your invoice include the buyer's state, which identifies the place of supply.
Verify with a Test Order
The Template Editor preview uses sample data that doesn't include GST. To check your setup, place a test order with an Indian shipping address, then print it from the Orders page.
Compliance
GST invoicing rules (such as invoice numbering per financial year or e-invoicing) depend on your business. Use Order Information > Custom invoice number to set a numbering prefix, and check the requirements with your tax advisor.
